Ten individuals sentenced of cyber-bullying directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The accused individuals faced charges of disseminating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's significant age difference.

The court issued conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.

A persistent conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's identity.

Their legal filing alleges that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations opting to give a platform to established defamers.

Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.

Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.

The pair entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
